The First (Annual?!) SiriusXM Hair Nation Festival kicked off at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater this past Saturday.  Harkening back to the days of spandex, teased hair and lipstick, (And that’s just the men) the lineup lived up to its “Hair Nation” banner.  Although the spandex is a little more snug on some and the hair isn’t as plentiful as it was back in the 80’s, the bands proved that what really mattered back then and now was the music.

If this was the last big rock show at Irvine Meadows, the venue was sent out with a bang.  The place was packed from the front of the stage to the back of the grass with rock fans of all ages and from all over the world.  Many people took advantage of the VIP packages that included travel to the festival.  There were even a few people that traveled from as far as England just for this festival.

The day kicked off on the Main Stage with Hair Nation Battle of the Band winners, The Aviators, who showed the growing crowd why they unanimously won the prestigious opening slot. And all day long, band after band appeared on the revolving stage, never allowing for a break in the music.  Hosted by SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk, each band played what amounted to a tight set of their greatest hits.

Good news for West Coast rock fans is that it was hinted by Eddie Trunk that even though the Irvine Amphitheater was going away, the people that matter backstage had already discussed finding another venue for a possible 2nd Hair Nation Festival.

Rock is definitely not dead
