Atreyu – In Our Wake Tour 2018
with Support from
Memphis May Fire
Ice Nine Kills
Sleep Signals
House Of Blues – Anaheim 12/13/18
Atreyu fans, this was the final show of the In Our Wake Tour and it ended with a rather loud BANG!
The House of Blues Anaheim show was sold out and the fans were arriving early! The line was long and the energy grew as we all waited for the doors to open.
This twenty-seven-stop tour lasted just over a month with these guys playing damn near every night from November 9th to December 13th, from Phoenix, Az to Anaheim, Ca. That’s one hell of a “short” tour but as tired as they must have been, they didn’t disappoint for their final show!
Sleep Signals
Sleep Signals:
Robert Cosgrove – Vocals
Sean Fitzpatrick – Guitar
Cody Hess – Guitar
Alexander Nikolas – Bass
Clay Barnum – Drums
Starting us off was Sleep Signals. I have to say, each of the “openers” on this line up were headline quality and Sleep Signals were no exception!
The energy was high, the songs were killer and the band held the audience in the palm of their hands!
Homebase for Sleep Signals is Minneapolis, MN and they have been making the rounds in support of their latest EP “At the End of the World” which came out in September 2017.
Sleep Signals are still touring as an independent band but they seem to be making great progress, with “At the End of the World” landing at #22 on Billboards Heatseekers Albums list back on November 28th 2018.
I definitely look forward to seeing these guys on stage again soon!
Ice Nine Kills
Ice Nine Kills:
Spencer Charnas – lead vocals
Justin DeBlieck – lead guitar, co-lead vocals
Justin Morrow – bass, backing vocals
Ricky Armellino – rhythm guitar, co-lead vocals
Patrick Galante – drums
Next Up, a kick-ass metalcore/theatricore band from Boston, Ice Nine Kills!
Straight out of the horror movies, each member was dressed to kill, so to speak. Touring in support of their recently released (Oct 2018) album, “The Silver Scream”, INK slayed their fans with the best of their horror and gruesome inspired songs. Lead vocalist – Spencer Charnas took the stage channeling Freddy Krueger with the rest of the members following suit – bringing out Jason and Michael Myers to join in on the fun!
“The Silver Scream” is proving to be a success for INK, coming in at #29 on the Billboard 200 just after its release. I suspect INK will be announcing more tour dates after the holidays to continue promoting their new album. I’d like to see these guys headline their own tour and I know the devout INK fans feel the same way!
On a final note, it’s amazing to see Spencer go out into the crowd and watch him “walk on top” of the fans. It’s something I’ve never seen done quite like this before.
Memphis May Fire
Memphis May Fire:
Matty Mullins – Vocals
Kellen McGregor – Lead Guitar
Jake Garland – Drums
Cory Elder – Bass
Memphis May Fire were on FIRE! Once these boys hit the stage the heat was turned up a notch and the crowd responded! One after another, the crowd surfing was in full effect! This foursome knew how to work the stage with lead vocalist, Matty Mullins covering every inch! Fans pushing to get a bit closer and singing the lyrics word for word. Home-base for Memphis May Fire is of course, Memphis Tennessee. But even being so far from home the fan base was thick at the HOB Anaheim.
The last LP release for Memphis May Fire was “Broken” which was just released on November 16th, 2018
“Broken” is the 6th studio release for the metal-core band from the mid-south and I know it won’t be their last. They have a strong presence on stage and really seem to connect as a band and with the fans. I’m looking forward to more good things from this group.
Atreyu
Atreyu:
Alex Varkatzas – Lead Vocals
Dan Jacobs – Guitar ,
Porter McKnight – Bass ,
Travis Miguel – Guitar ,
Brandon Saller – Drums/Vocals
Our headliner, Atreyu took the stage to a sea of screaming fans! It makes perfect sense that these Orange County boys would make their last stop of their In Our Wake Tour the HOB Anaheim and their hometown fans were ready to help them celebrate the success of their tour!
Their entire set was molten high energy, touching on their new album as well as their top hits of the past; a great mix of old and new. “Becoming the Bull“, “Right Side of the Bed“, “Ex’s and Oh’s“ and “In Our Wake” to name a few.
The band looked pumped but at ease in-front of their home-base fans. Singer, Alex Varkatzas immediately took command of the stage, staying out front and at times reaching far over the front barrier to get as close to the fans as possible. Holding out his mic for the fans to join in with singing the lyrics to their favorite songs while the rest of the band engaged the crowd by flanking Varkatzas on either side. At times the duo axe slingers, Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel kicked their guitars into high gear with a bit of “showing-off” with their side-by-side playing, thrashing their guitars left and right and up and down which added to the excitement of an already killer show!
Brandon Saller on drums kicking out the heavy beats and Porter McKnight with solid bass licks were every bit involved in rounding out this solid group!
This was my first time seeing Atreyu, so I didn’t know what to expect but they didn’t disappoint!
