The rockers showed up in droves Thursday evening to honor and support the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Foundation at Pinz Bowling Alley in Studio City, CA.
Stand Up And Shout Founder and Ronnie’s wife, Wendy Dio, was on hand to welcome friends and fans alike to the event which was held to raise money dedicated to cancer research and prevention.
The event kicked off with the rockers and celebs walking the red carpet, before grabbing their bowling shoes and balls and heading off to the lanes.
There was no shortage of incredible talent on hand to lend their support to the cause. Pinz bowling alley was packed! The host of the evening, Eddie Trunk, assembled an A-level (and eventual winning) team including, Black Sabbath Legend, Geezer Butler, Tenacious D’s, Jack Black, Prophet’s of Rage, Tom Morello, The Dead Daisies, Doug Aldrich and Steve from San Jose, the $7300 e-bay auction winner who won the opportunity to join Eddie’s team. It was easy to spot what lane they were on by the huge crowd that surrounded them all evening.
The event included a raffle that offered gift baskets and a beautiful bowling ball and pin set adorned with “Murray“, The Bestial Dio Mascot.
Wendy Dio presented a check for $61,000 to Professor David Wong (Associate Dean of Research and the Director of the UCLA Center for Oral/Head and Neck Research). Professor Wong has been instrumental in research for the early detection of cancer via a patient’s saliva. He assured the crowd that practices would be able to perform these screenings in the very near future.
