Diane Lynn was on Scene and Heard…
WTR friends! It’s been a minute since we’ve posted in our Scene and Heard section, but we have something pretty cool for our return.
Hi, it’s Diane Lynn and I was on Scene and Heard the Ronstadt Revival at the Lewis Family Playhouse in Rancho Cucamonga a couple of weeks ago and I have to say Whoa, this was fun! I’ve reported on several tribute bands for SNH in the past, but this one must be added to my top favorites.
We all know the name Linda Ronstadt, and we all know her music even if it’s just for one or two songs. Linda has carved a place in musical history over the years with all her top hits and Gold, Platinum and Multiplatinum albums. Many of us grew up listening to her music being played on the radio, songs that take us back to specific times in our lives, hopefully more happier times than not, but whatever the case her songs are timeless and are still being played in rotation on many stations around the world.
With all that said, Ronstadt Revival is the band to see to take you back on a musical journey though Linda’s catalog. Some tunes you may not have even known were sung by Linda, as it was in my case.
Ronstadt Revival is a seven-member band, and I can’t even begin to tell you how amazingly talented this group of musicians/singers are, each with their own special and unique talent that adds just that little something extra to the band.
The show started with the group casually taking their places on stage and as Lead Vocalist Shannon Rae (Linda Ronstadt) took the stage the band immediately went into the first song of the night, the ever popular “It’s So Easy”. This was followed with hits like “Just One Look”, “That’ll Be The Day”, “When Will I Be Loved” and so many more.
Ronstadt Revival performed a generous twenty-two songs and this night it was split into two sets. The night was filled with nostalgia for the Ronstadt fans in attendance and within the first few songs the audience showed their approval by clapping and singing along with the band.
Ronstadt Revival are:
Shannon Rae – Lead Vocalist
Dan Segal – Guitarist
Kevin Ryan – Pedal Steel/Guitar
Jeff Hale – Bass/Vocals
Rich Sanders – Keys/Vocals
Marc Fortner – Drums
Julie Pusch – Fiddle/Guitar/Vocals
One of the things that I really enjoyed was the way it was all presented. Shannon Rae took the normal short pauses in between some of the songs to give the audience a bit of history about the next tune they were about to play. Telling us about the circumstances in which the songs materialized from, whether it came from a love affair that Linda was having at the time or the heartbreak of a relationship ending, even how a duet/song just happened to fall into place with another musician. Hearing the history behind the songs told us a little bit more about Linda and more about the true meaning of the songs. I loved hearing those little tidbits, and how Rae presented it all was perfect!
Shannon keeps the audience engaged, she’s witty and funny and looks so comfortable being center stage, add that to her amazing singing and the fact that she’s truly a Ronstadt fan; she really presents Linda’s music beautifully. I also appreciated that each member of the band had their moment to shine, the Pedal Steel, the Fiddle, Keys, Guitar, Bass and Drums all shined in the spotlight and the group really seemed to be having fun doing it! By the end of the evening the sold-out audience was on their feet dancing and cheering on the band.
It was definitely a fun night with a great tribute to some unforgettable music. For all you Ronstadt fans out there, Ronstadt Revival is the band for you!
