Molly Miller was on Scene and Heard…
When was the last time that you went in-person and bought a cash-only ticket for $10 to see 5 bands play? 1982? 1986? Well, I experienced that for the first time now… in 2024. Pretty Boy Floyd headlined a show at Bar 10 located inside Corbin Bowl in Tarzana, California on August 29, 2024. Bar 10 boasts that it is the areas newest music venue.
The opening acts included Stonebreed, Power, Rising Elijah, and Racoons Anonymous. Unfortunately, since this was on a Thursday night and not everyone can live like a rockstar, I had to miss a few bands because of that scary thing some people must endure during the week (work).
As I entered Bar 10, I ventured over to the Merch Booth. While taking some photographs of the table, I felt a crash on the back of my legs. Someone had fallen out of a chair and was now laying on the floor behind me. But don’t worry, about an hour after my husband and I carried her to her friends car, she came back in and rocked out for Stonebreed and Pretty Boy Floyd.
Stonebreed is a band that I would probably go see in a venue this size again. I am not super familiar with this band, but they put on a good show. Beyond the music, I loved their crowd work. Lead singer Carlos Cruz knew a bunch of their fans names and called out to them all. They encouraged everyone to go over to the merch booth because “one shirt feeds the whole band at Del Taco.” Arguably my favorite part of the set was when Lindsey Ferrari hopped on stage and danced alongside the band. That was a special treat and a solid way to end their set.
Pretty Boy Floyd stepped onto the stage and everyone’s eyes were fixed on them. Steve Summers is every bit of a frontman that you would want. He has stage presence, interacts with the audience and of course, his vocals were sharp. I mean, that guys high-notes were putting the ceiling’s acoustics to the test. Dizzy Aster on guitar is talented of course, he nailed all of his solos, and he is definitely easy on the eyes. He photographs like a rockstar in the 1980s, not from the 1980s. Lonny Paul rocked the bass (quite literally, his bass tilts added to the whole bands showmanship). Jared Hren was a drummer filling in for Nick Mason last night and clearly knew all the songs!
At the end of the set, the crowed asked for an encore. Steve Summers then invited Stonebreed’s Carlos Cruz back on stage for their rendition of KISS’s “Rock and Roll All Nite.” Steve and Dizzy were both extremely friendly and interacted with the fans before and after their set. I really don’t have much to criticize with Pretty Boy Floyd. Their songs are catchy, their stage work is energetic and their musicality is all there. The only thing I wish I saw more of was you all in the crowd! Hopefully the upcoming music release in September will be added to their song rotation and will help bring in more fans.
Overall, it was a cool venue that I would totally go to again. Pretty Boy Floyd put on a great show. They are such a fun band and I am so looking forward to seeing more of them. Hopefully next time we can get a full house out there supporting these bands. Until next time – rock on!
